Hersh Thaker
Hersh founded Surya Community Energy to support community organisations, initially in Leicester, where rising energy costs had hit hard, and also to create a sustainable financial model that could allow organisations to do more in their local communities.
He has spent the last decade in the energy industry, much of that time in the electric mobility space, building new business models and products that help drivers and businesses transition to zero-carbon vehicles.
Hersh brings commercial and technical experience in the renewable energy space, as well as experience building teams, taking an idea from 0 to 1, and being passionate about community capacity building.
Devena Chouhan
Devena has a background in digital and strategy transformation, with experience in the energy sector and ESG regulation. Currently working for a leading energy company, she contributes to regulatory transformation and compliance strategy. Devena is passionate about community empowerment and environmental sustainability and has been actively involved in various volunteering initiatives. Her efforts span grassroots NGOs such as Hindu Climate Action and Leicester Climate Action, as well as advocating for B-CORP accreditations in corporate environments.
As a director of Surya Community Energy, Devena is dedicated to supporting the mission of community energy. She leverages her expertise in digital transformation and sustainability to help make a positive impact on local communities.
Akash Thaker
Akash joined Surya Community Energy to increase engagement with young people and volunteers and strengthen our capacity to deliver cheap, local, clean electricity.
Akash has held leadership roles at community groups such as Leicester Young Labour, of which he was a co-chair. He’s currently the president of Hull Hindu Society, has served on the youth board at Good Energy, and has worked in the electric mobility and energy policy space.
